The president announced his intentions to support his former Republican primary opponent in a post on Truth Social. Trump highlighted the fact that he competed against Ramaswamy as one reason why he chose to endorse him.
“VIVEK RAMASWAMY is running for Governor of the Great State of Ohio. I know him well, competed against him, and he is something SPECIAL,” Trump said. “He’s Young, Strong, and Smart! Vivek is also a very good person, who truly loves our Country.”
Ramaswamy burst onto the political scene with his 2024 presidential campaign. Initially widely unknown in the political realm upon declaring his candidacy, Ramaswamy rose to fame after several high-profile interviews, campaign ads, and debate performances. After withdrawing from the race, Ramaswamy endorsed Trump and began campaigning for him. After Trump won the election, it was rumored that Ramaswamy and Elon Musk would run the Department of Government Efficiency.
After several weeks, and before Trump’s inauguration, it was announced that Ramaswamy would no longer be involved with DOGE and instead, he turned his attention to running for governor of Ohio. As the Washington Examiner previously reported, Ramaswamy officially submitted the required paperwork to run for governor earlier this month.
In his public endorsement Monday, Trump claimed Ramaswamy would never let Ohioans down and would be successful in office.
RAMASWAMY HAS A GOOD SHOT AT THE OHIO GOVERNORSHIP
“He will be a GREAT Governor of Ohio, will never let you down, and has my COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT!” Trump said.
Ohio’s gubernatorial election is on Nov. 3, 2026. Current Gov. Mike DeWine (R-OH) is ineligible to run for a third consecutive term as governor. Currently, Ramaswamy is one of three Republicans who have officially announced their candidacy. The other two running are a former school board president, Heather Hill, and Dave Yost, Ohio’s Attorney General since 2019.
