When 19-year-old José Nuñez Romaniz stopped at an ATM to withdraw cash for his grandpa’s socks, he never expected to find a clear bag filled with $135,000. Instead of taking the money, the Albuquerque college student immediately called the ATM’s contact number and police.
The cash had been mistakenly left behind by a subcontractor refilling the machine. Romaniz later joked that his mother would’ve disciplined him if he had kept it.
Honored by Mayor Tim Keller and Police Chief Mike Geier, he received $1,000 in rewards and season football tickets. His honesty left the community proud, proving integrity still thrives.
