Trump slams ‘STUPID’ NFL owners for snubbing Shedeur Sanders in draft

Published:

President Donald Trump sounded off on the 32 National Football League owners whose teams passed on University of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the first round of the NFL draft Thursday.

Citing the prospect’s “phenomenal genes” as the son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, Trump said Sanders should be picked “IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN.”

“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID?” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness.”

“Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!” he added.

With the second round of the NFL draft set to begin at 7 p.m. Friday, the first team eligible to take Sanders is the Cleveland Browns. The QB-needy Browns were one of several teams linked to Sanders in the first round, in addition to the Giants, Saints, and Steelers. The Giants drafted Ole Miss quarterback Jaxon Dart after signing former Steeler Russell Wilson and former Brown Jameis Winston this offseason.

Ahead of the NFL draft, the University of Colorado announced it would retire Sanders’s jersey after the quarterback threw for 4134 yards and 37 touchdowns in 13 games, with a 74% completion percentage in 2024. He finished eighth in Heisman voting.

WASHINGTON COMMANDERS SELECT JOSH CONERLY JR. WITH FIRST-ROUND DRAFT PICK

Sanders’s brother, Shilo Sanders, made headlines in February when he compared himself to Trump following criticism of his Shrine Bowl performance.

“If you just hate me or want to hate me … paint me in a bad picture; they do that to our president,” Sanders said. He is expected to be a late-round pick or an undrafted free agent.
