One person was killed, and four others were injured during a plane crash in Arizona on Monday.
At approximately 2:39 p.m., a small Learjet arriving from Austin, Texas, was attempting to land at Scottsdale Airport in Arizona when it veered off the runway and collided with a parked airplane, ABC15 reported. It is suspected that the private jet’s landing gear malfunctioned, leading to the accident.
The small plane belonged to Vince Neil, the lead singer for the popular 1980s heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. Five people were on the plane, according to reports, four of whom were injured. Three were transported to nearby hospitals to receive treatments, and one refused medical help.

The identity of the person killed in the crash has not been released. Neil was not one of the passengers on the plane. The singer’s representatives issued a statement about the collision, stating that he appreciated the efforts of first responders and expressed empathy for those hurt in the accident.
“At 2:39 p.m. local time, a Learjet aircraft Model 35A owned by Vince Neil was attempting to land at the Scottsdale Airport,” read the statement. “For reasons unknown at this time, the plane veered from the runway causing it to collide with another parked plane. On board Mr. Neil’s plane were two pilots and two passengers.”
“Mr. Neil was not on the plane,” noted the release. “More specific details regarding the collision are not available as this is a rapidly evolving situation, and there is an ongoing investigation. Mr. Neil’s thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved, and he is grateful for the critical aid of all first responders assisting today.”
The National Transportation Safety Board announced it was investigating the accident late Monday afternoon. The Federal Aviation Association released a statement about the crash earlier in the day.
“A Learjet 35A veered off the runway after landing and crashed into a Gulfstream 200 business jet on the ramp at Scottsdale Municipal Airport in Arizona around 2:45 p.m. local time Monday, Feb. 10,” the FAA said. “We do not know how many people were on board. The FAA is temporarily pausing flights into the airport.”
Scottsdale’s mayor, Lisa Borowsky, commented on the accident, providing the information she knew at the time and expressing her condolences to the family of the person who was killed.

“Today, Scottsdale sadly experienced an aircraft accident at our airport,” Borowsky said. “Based on the information provided thus far, it appears at least one person is dead after two jets collided on the runway at Scottsdale Airport.”
“On behalf of the city of Scottsdale, we offer our deepest condolences to those involved in the accident and for those who have been taken to our trauma center for treatment,” she added. “We will keep all affected by this tragedy in our prayers. I would also like to thank our first responder community for their quick action and service in this situation.”
