President Trump’s top national security officials face a second day of tough questions on Capitol Hill, this time in front of House members.
On Tuesday, the Senate Intelligence panel pressed the group to explain how planning of a U.S. strike on Yemen ended up in a chat on the encrypted Signal app. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, CIA Director John Ratcliffe and FBI Director Kash Patel will testify starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence at its previously scheduled annual threats hearing.
The questioning comes as The Atlantic, which published the bombshell Signal war plans chat story on Monday, released on Wednesday morning the actual texts of Cabinet members.
National security adviser Michael Waltz acknowledged on Tuesday that the leaked Signal chat was ‘a mistake,’ but Trump largely brushed off the situation.
Meanwhile, Democrats and Republicans are on the clock to raise the debt ceiling. The Congressional Budget Office on Wednesday will release a new “X date,” giving Congress a deadline for extending the limit.
Also on the Hill, NPR and PBS executives face accountability questions before the House Oversight Committee’s subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency.
At the White House, press secretary Karoline Leavitt is expected to brief reporters at 1 p.m.
