Ponder – Find Your Middle Ground – Find Your Middle Ground

I have begun to re-visit what it means to Find Your Middle Ground and live from the center of our being. When life events take over and we don’t feel in control, its even more important to have a practice that brings us home to our Middle Ground. I have found that to be case in recent weeks. There is something to reflect on here.

Finding your middle ground is not about compromising about life or coming to an agreement between two extremes. A more accurate name may be “Find the Center of Your Being”, but it doesn’t have that ring to it. Your middle ground is when you feel grounded, in balance, calm and assured that all is well. Some have called it being in the zone or in the flow. The full expression of this leads us to Awakening or Self Realization. As far as I know there isn’t a Middle Ground Theory …. but I have a couple of ways of looking at it.

The first approach I call the Pendulum of Life:

The pendulum of life often swings from extreme highs to lows. Your middle ground is when it is closest to the ground, instead of being up in the air and out of touch, usually with overactive thinking mind or being carried away with emotions. When you slow down and find your feet, you become centered and grounded. You find your middle ground.
In the pendulum of life there is always movement, as you navigate through change and imbalances, from external disturbances and inner conflicts. Taking time to pause and settle the mind and body helps bring that sens of groundedness and inner balance.

Take a moment and notice where you might be on life’s pendulum right now.

The second approach I call the Waves of Life:

Sound waves and ocean waves naturally crest and and fall. In the flow of the movement they pass through an undisturbed position. Waves can’t rest here, but you can. You have a choice. You can slow down and not let your emotions and thinking take you on a crazy roller coaster ride.

Most people think they must keep riding the crest of the waves in order to be happy. They cling to the highs in order to avoid the lows. Their middle ground gets overlooked or dismissed, as it is the place when there is calm and no disturbance. If you are so focused on riding the waves, then calmness doesn’t feel good at all!

Take a moment and consider your own attitude towards these highs and lows, and the part your middle ground plays in your life.

Finding your middle ground is a practice of mindful awareness. Taking time to pause and simply notice what arises in that moment, is an essential part of awakening to our true nature.

As the New Year begins, I intend to write more and connect to fellow spiritual beings doing our best in this human life.
