Cocktail of the week: Feels Like June’s wake me up – recipe | Cocktails

Date:

This combines the rich flavours of coffee with the smoothness of bourbon for a delightful and energising drink that’s very popular at our bar. The amount of liqueur you use will affect the sweetness of the cocktail, so start with the quantity listed and adjust to taste.

Wake me up

Serves 1

20ml good bourbon whiskey – I use Woodford Reserve
30ml banana liqueur – I use Briottet
25ml freshly brewed espresso, cooled to room temperature
7ml Disaronno, or similar almond liqueur
Banana chips
, to garnish

Put a coffee mug or small tumbler in the freezer to chill. Fill a shaker with ice, add the bourbon, banana liqueur, cooled espresso and Disaronno, then shake hard for 10-15 seconds, to chill down the ingredients and create a nice froth on top.

Strain the mix into the chilled mug, garnish by laying a couple of banana chips on top of the froth and serve immediately while it’s still very cold.
