Donald Trump was caught off guard when asked about his previous comment calling Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy a “dictator” during a press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. When questioned, Trump paused and said, “Did I say that? I can’t believe I said that,” before quickly adding, “Next question.”
Earlier, Trump had referred to Zelenskyy as a dictator, criticizing him for refusing elections and his low popularity in Ukraine. He also questioned how Zelenskyy could maintain high approval with cities being destroyed.
Despite his earlier comments, Trump claimed to have “a lot of respect” for Zelenskyy. The press conference followed a visit by Starmer, who presented Trump with a rare invitation from King Charles for a second state visit to the UK.
