DOGE to target Department of Homeland Security in new staffing cuts: Report

Published:

CNN reported on Saturday that DOGE is planning to implement staffing cuts to DHS and agencies under it including the U.S. Secret Service, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

A source told the outlet that FEMA, which was the target of an executive order issued by President Donald Trump in January to assess its effectiveness, is expected to be decimated.

However, no final decisions have been made and the scale of the cuts is not yet clear.

These expected cuts would follow others at the IRS, Energy Department, and State Department that came late this week as the United States was focused on Trump’s sweeping reciprocal tariffs.

The IRS began its efforts to lay off 25% of its workforce, or 20,000 jobs, on Friday, while 8,500 positions are at risk at the Energy Department and diplomats are being forced out at the State Department ahead of planned staffing cuts.
