What is the role of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs? That is the question posed by the House Foreign Affairs Western Hemisphere Subcommittee at its hearing on Thursday. The bureau falls under the purview of the State Department. Chairwoman Maria Salazar says that the answer should be self-evident, to fight crime. And yet she argues that the bureau is instead spending its time fighting conservatives.
