In what officials are calling “a bold next step in personal brand governance,” Governor Jeff Landry has signed an executive order to officially rename the state of Louisiana to Landriana, citing streamlined governance, stronger national alignment, and “the vibe.”
“This change will reduce confusion, improve branding, and increase my legacy footprint,” Landry said while standing in front of a full-length mirror wearing a sash that read Executive of the Year.
The move follows the White House’s proclamation renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. “If the Gulf can be Americanized, so can we,” Landry said. “Besides, Landriana just feels… destined.”
Under the order, all references to “Louisiana” in the state’s constitution, highway signs, merchandise, license plates, and textbooks must be updated by July 4, 2025. “Louisiana had a good run,” Landry added. “But it’s time for something a little more… me.”
The state’s tourism board has been tasked with developing a new slogan by summer. Early contenders include “Landriana: Where Freedom Reigns and So Does Jeff” and “Landriana: A New Name for a New Era”.
Public reaction has been mixed. “At first I thought it was a joke,” said Terrebonne Parish resident Linda Guidry. “Then I saw the new state seal with Landry riding a nutria like a horse and I thought—yep, that tracks.”
“I’m just trying to renew my fishing license,” said Plaquemines Parish resident Dale Bourgeois. “Now I gotta prove I’m a citizen of Landriana?”
One anonymous supporter praised the move, saying, “This is exactly what we need right now—a name that shows strength, tradition, and a soft ‘a’ ending. Also, I was promised a Landriana vanity plate with my dog’s name on it, so I’m all in.”
Additional provisions in the executive order include renaming LSU to Landry State University, though the football team will reportedly still be called “The Fightin’ Jeffs.” No changes are expected to the tailgating schedule, for now. The official state motto will also be changed from “Union, Justice, and Confidence” to “Legacy, Leadership, and Landry”—and must now be shouted during jury duty roll call.
An early promotional image for Landry State University, formerly Louisiana State University (which will still be referred to as LSU “for simplicity”), features a commemorative football jersey and what officials describe as “a highly accurate rendering” of the governor. The mascot name is still under debate, but sources say “The Fightin’ Jeffs” is leading.
The executive order also allocates funding for new state maps, highway signage, and limited-edition commemorative coins bearing Landry’s profile in wraparound sunglasses, gazing confidently toward the Gulf of America. A ceremonial renaming parade is slated for July, pending final approval of the governor’s float—reportedly a golden gavel on wheels, pulled by bedazzled alligators and flanked by fog machines, with a gospel remix of “Callin’ Baton Rouge” blasting at full volume.
Officials have also confirmed plans to update the state flag. “We’re not changing it because anyone demanded it,” one spokesperson clarified. “We’re changing it because we’re patriotic. We are all Jeff.”
Another lesser-known provision includes the installation of a life-size wax statue of the governor in the Capitol rotunda to “serve as a symbol of timeless leadership.”
“It’s definitely a celebration,” said one aide. “But if you read the fine print, it also quietly replaces the lieutenant governor with the wax one.”
