If you’re looking to spice things up in the bedroom, proceed with caution—one wrong move could land you in the ER. While doctors have seen their fair share of odd cases, a WWI bomb in someone’s rectum isn’t exactly common. However, sex toys in unexpected places are a frequent issue, accounting for 95% of related ER visits, according to a 2023 study.

Intimacy coach Kate Shelor warns that cheap toys, especially those made from jelly or TPE, degrade quickly and trap bacteria. “If it gets sticky, discolored, or smells bad, it’s time to toss it,” she told Daily Mail. She also stresses using anal-specific toys with a flanged base to avoid emergency removals.

Alicia Davis learned this the hard way. During an intimate moment, her anal plug seemingly vanished—only to be lodged inside her, requiring medical intervention. Her viral TikTok recounts the frantic search before realizing a hospital visit was inevitable.
