Trump has ‘forward’ vision for war in Ukraine: Adam Boehler

Date:

Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs Adam Boehler argued that President Donald Trump looks “forward” when considering the path toward ending the war in Ukraine.

Following a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday, Trump stated that Russia is ready to “start negotiations immediately” to end its war in Ukraine. Trump also noted that he spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shortly after his call with Putin. In assessing how Trump will deal with these negotiations, Boehler explained that the president is fulfilling a major campaign promise in seeing to the end of the war between the two nations.

“So the president looks forward and says ‘this is how it should be, we should end the war, there should be territorial sovereignty on both sides,’” Boehler explained on Fox News’s The Story with Martha MacCallum. “Now what does that need to look like? Does Ukraine need to join NATO tomorrow? I don’t think so. It’s an agitator, so that’s what he’s thinking.”

Boehler went on to state that both Ukraine and Russia need to present “their best offers” to Trump and that the president will commune with his advisers to come to the best decision on the matter. He added that Trump will provide any “extra oomph” to achieve a resolution between the two countries.

The topic of the Hamas terrorist group and its deadline to release its remaining hostages this Saturday was also addressed by Boehler, who advised Hamas to look to other countries that have “unilaterally released” hostages and take the same approach.

“We need to expunge this threat, and I think they need to come forward and be constructive or it’s going to be a real, real problem,” Boehler said. “So I think this is Hamas’s decision as a terror organization. We’re just following through on what we said.”

On Tuesday, the United States brought home Marc Fogel from Russia after the American teacher was detained by the country in August 2021. Fogel described himself as “the luckiest man on Earth right now” and thanked Trump and all who helped get him back into the U.S.
