Cocktail of the week: Henri’s auguste – recipe | Cocktails

Date:

This bittersweet, bourbon-forward and jammy twist on the boulevardier is enriched with berry notes. The infusion, which needs to be made at least a week in advance, also makes a nice boozy gift for your nearest and dearest.

Auguste

Serves 1

For the infusion (makes 10 servings)
400ml bourbon – we use Buffalo Trace
100ml bitter aperitif – we use Sipello, but Campari or Select would also do
100ml sweet vermouth – we use Antica Formula
100ml strawberry liqueur – we use Merlet’s Crème de Fraise des Bois
370g jar blueberry jam – we use Bonne Maman’s Wild Blueberry Conserve

For the drink
70ml infusion (see above and method)
1 maraschino cherry, to garnish

Make the infusion at least a week ahead. Measure all the ingredients into a clean one-litre mason jar or large bottle. Seal, shake well to dissolve the jam, then put in the fridge and leave to infuse for a week. Strain the mixture through a fine cloth into a clean jar or bowl, then return the liquid to the original jar or bottle, seal and refrigerate again. The infusion will now keep for up to a month.

To make the drink, measure the infusion into a mixing glass filled with a handful of ice and stir to chill and dilute. Strain into a glass of your choosing – we like a cordial glass or a nick & nora glass – garnish with a maraschino cherry and serve.
